about alex about alex

I'm Alex Lazaris, a San Francisco-based designer focused on solving real-world business problems through elegant and thoughtful design solutions.

Ever since I was a child, I have been obsessed with storytelling. Growing up as a Greek-American I lived and breathed the mythological stories of my ancestors. These stories only furthered my imagination and obsession around how people and companies tell, shape, and sell their stories. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have a career where I help businesses and brands build, shape and tell their stories through design.

My focus on research and strategy makes my design solutions more efficient, delightful and elegant for both businesses and their users alike. I thrive in environments that are research and data heavy, so I can craft strategies that are purposeful and deliberate. I build design systems that solve problems for products and brands.

FUN FACT

I used to be a Professional Longboarder ranking in the Top 100 in North America and the Top 300 in the world.

I know for a fact that I wouldn't be where I am in my career without my mentors. Being a self taught designer, the advice given to me by my mentors has been priceless. I have been very fortunate to have some incredible people take me under their wings, and I believe it is my duty to give back to the design community.

If you would like mentoring please feel free to reach out to me. I will happily grab a coffee with and chat about anything career or design related. You can also join me at meetups around the city like Cascade SF where I’ve mentored regularly since moving to SF.

process

I approach design as an endless process of iterating and perfecting solutions to problems, not merely the application of visuals to a medium. Below I have broken down my process into five simplified categories of how I solve problems through design. This process itself is being constantly tweaked to better serve my clients, partners and employers.

DEFINE

I start every design by clearly defining the problem, constraints and goals that we are trying to solve for. Without a clear definition the solutions we create will be incorrect, misguided and a waste of time.

CREATE

I take a few items from the ideation session and push them further to see if the solution is strong enough for more exploration. I push these strongest ideas along and create higher fidelity concepts, wireframes and mockups.

Analyze

I gather all feedback and research from the testing stage and shape it into helpful guidance that can either push the design solutions down a new path or simply adjust some of the design’s parameters to be more effective.

IDEATE

I start every design by clearly defining the problem, constraints and goals that we are trying to solve for. Without a clear definition the solutions we create will be incorrect, misguided and a waste of time.

TEST

I revisit the definitions that were defined at stage one and ensure that these solutions are still meeting them. I test them through a/b testing, ethnographic research and sharing them with my team to ensure that the proposed solution is the strongest.
